The voice of European lawyers

The CCBE at the Internation Bar Association’s Annual Conference

What a week in Copenhagen!

The CCBE participated in the International Bar Association Annual Conference, an excellent opportunity for the CCBE President Roman Zavrsek, Vice-President Imbi Jürgen and Secretary-General Simone Cuomo to reconnect with colleagues from Bars and Law Societies across Europe and meet key stakeholders from the legal sector worldwide.

On 5 October, they also had the pleasure of hosting a meeting with around 40 European Bar representatives at the premises kindly offered by Danske Advokater.

Key takeaways:
⚖️ Rule of law, judicial independence and access to justice as shared priorities across jurisdictions.
🌐 AI and its impact on the legal profession, while ensuring that human judgement, professional independence and ethical responsibility remain at the heart of legal services.
🛡️ The importance of protecting lawyers and strengthening independent institutions as essential pillars of democratic societies.
🌍 Growing interest in the Luxembourg Convention highlights the global relevance of safeguards for lawyers’ independence and professional rights.

What emerged from the conference is that, despite different legal systems, the challenges facing the legal profession are increasingly shared and require collective responses. 🤝
